The Band:
Vic Pavone
Vic is our rock solid bassman. His low and rumbling sound is the grits and gravy of the Straight-Up Blues Band. With his strong blues flavored vocals, he influences the overall sound of the group.
Alvina Walcott
Momma V. sometimes sweet & low, sometimes as wild and crazy as she wants to be. She makes you feel like a part of her blues. She is momma to the band and five boys of her own.
Eric Bechtel
Eric has a lot to offer the blues world. His style and youthful personality bring out the heart of the music and keep the band feeling young. He is strong enough to balance both the world of music and the world of education.
Mike Gardner
Handling Keyboards and managing the business of the band is the job of this man. He pours his heart and soul into the music, and keeps the band working. His drive is his love of the music. He is constantly striving to find new venues for the group to play.
Don "Blues Counselor" Simon
Don is versitile playing both rhythm and lead guitar. Often laid back and quiet Don will let it go when he is called on to play the "Blues". He is a real asset to the Straightup Blues Band and the Blues Community.
Ralph Straight
As the leader of the group, Ralph brings stability and maturity into the fold. His Vocals and heavy blues guitar leads on his 1979 stratocaster, "Lucy", lend new meaning to the words "Blues" and "Guitar". Ralph lives for the blues and time with his family.
The Blues
The "Blues" is in the eyes and ears of the audience. Everybody hears and feels the "blues" in a different way. The Straight-Up Blues Band strives to find the musical key that will unlock the feelings you have inside. "The blues will make you happy or the blues will make you sad. But, as far as we're concerned, there ain't no blues that's bad".
From the "porch music" style of Robert Johnson, to the screaming guitar riffs of Luther Allison, we play honest from the heart and soul blues. From the old standards of long ago to the blues of today. From the masters, the unknowns and original songs, we'll play the blues for you.
